The Story of My Future! Write It!

Thinking about how to write that story and how it will unfold is the big question. Do I need a creative writing teacher? Do I need someone to help me edit. How will my story be told or sold? Will it be an unread novel? Will it become a thrift store shelf special where 10 other books can be bought in a box for $1? Or will my life be a story that is seen, told and sold and becomes an Amazon Best Seller! How do we begin to take this blueprint, this shadow of what we know we can become and bring it out to the full light of day? To outline the chapters, to have the words, to write sentences that create paragraphs and the story begin to flow? Here are some starters that I will continue in

See Me! Shooters, Bombers, Killers......

I have no sympathy for the killers, the shooters, bombers and murderers. So many are Millennials or teens are demanding to be seen, known and acknowledged for something. They are so often profiled as young men who have been bullied and marginalized. One might feel sorry for them but what I believe has created so many of these violent men is not the fact they have been bullied but the response the mental health community and educators have seen as their salvation. Those who are bullied are coddled. They are made to feel special by being labeled as victims. They need protection. They are seldom told how to overcome and become strong and seen for the talent that they have or the character they

College is NOT The Only Option.

Most parents want their children to go to college. For some it is an obsession. Their view of the future demands nothing other than a college bound pathway to insure happiness and security for their children. If money is what equates to security and happiness then the belief that college is the only option is very very flawed as a mindset. College brings with it an average graduation gift of almost $40,000 student debt that will diminish your child's standard of living for years to come. Paying 20% of their take-home check for the next 10 years is a smack in the face every two weeks that stings more than a dominatrix's whip. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., last year focused attention on the vo

The Tech Industry’s War on Kids

How psychology is being used as a weapon against children “We called the police because she wrecked her room and hit her mom… all because we took her phone,” Kelly’s father explained. He said that when the police arrived that evening, Kelly was distraught and told an officer that she wanted to kill herself. So an ambulance was called, and the 15-year-old was strapped to a gurney, taken to a psychiatric hospital, and monitored for safety before being released. Days after being hospitalized, Kelly was brought to my office by her parents who wanted to get help for their troubled girl. Work! Get a job stupid!

One of the ways we have helped underachieving and or teens who were doing drugs or involved in at risk behaviors has been to require them getting jobs. When they learn they can: 1. produce, 2. make their own money, 3. have more control in their lives, 4. not be dependent totally on parents, 5. think about the value of money when idiot "friends" want to borrow for drugs or whatever. It makes all the difference. This works for teens from very wealthy families as well as teens from poor families.
