Tip-of-the-Day F.A.Q.
Our Tip works really well for nearly everyone, so you can consider yourself 'special'. Isn't it great to think you're going to be stronger as a result?
We've learned that not all PCs are configured or connected to the Internet equally. You're likely reading this in an attempt to relieve an issue, such as a blank Tip, or to be removed from the list.
We've created this page to address potential hurdles and F.A.Qs
"My Tip is blank"
The Tip is a Macromedia Flash that uses a remote data connection to retrieve the text for that day. There can be several issues preventing the data request from completing.
When you first download the Tip FlashCard file (407k), it may take 15 seconds or so on a 28.8k connection. Please be patient. The daily update requested by clicking your icon on the desktop is usually very brief. If nothing happens when you click on the icon you can...
1) Be sure you're connected to the Internet when requesting the Tip. A terminated connection will allow the Tip-of-the-Day to play - but it won't "fetch" the text for the day.
2) Fire walls present a challenge, as many are configured to NOT allow remote data connections. Check to see if the network administrator can allow you to have "remote data connections".
3) If you have previously seen the Tip-of-the-Day text, and today's is simply missing text, it's likely that Internet congestion in any one of the dozen servers between your PC and the Tip-of-the-Day web server may be at fault. Try again in a few minutes, or reconnect to the Internet and try again. Re-connecting usually reroutes the data request through different servers and may eliminate the congested server from your path.
"When I click the link, I don't see anything."
If you can't see anything, your eyes may be closed. (kidding)
If you mean that the Tip-of-the-Day doesn't have text - see above.
If you mean that the Tip-of-the-Day doesn't play AT ALL, then be sure you have a Flash 4.0 (or newer) player. You can get one here >>
"Does the Tip-of-the-Day work on a Mac?"
This is really a funny one. MACromedia produces the Flash software we built the Tip-of-the-Day with, but they don't yet have an 'executable' projector for the Mac. As of the time of writing this, the down loaded Tip-of-the-Day will only play on PCs.
"Can I see the Tip-of-the-Day without the FlashCard?"
There sure is. The Home Turf page of our web site has the Tip-of-the-Day on it. If all-else-fails, bookmark and visit www.teendiscovery.com
"Why do I have to sign-up every day to see the Tip-of-the-Day?"
Signing up once is sufficient. If the Tip-of-the-Day doesn't display on the tips.asp page, then you're likely challenged with another issue. Please check if you have all the above covered.
"My question isn't on the list!"
